What Motivates You to Success?

Money, Power, Wealth, Fame... these are a few reasons why people want to be successful. Let's face it, we all could use some extra change in our bank accounts. While money is important to many, there are others who desire a certain position of Power. They want to be the boss. They want to be the ones rising above and beyond others to the top to become VP's and High Level Executives. Then, there are others who just desire an abundance of wealth for themselves and their families. The big $500,00.00 homes and fancy cars are appealing to them. And finally, fame. I can't tell you how many people I've heard say they want to be the next famous super star. They want to be the next NBA player or the next Multi-Platinum Artist.

I've heard one friend recently ask, what happens next? You get the big job, making big money but what happens after that? Are you left satisfied with your life and your big accomplishments or do you still feel a little empty inside- given that all you have accomplished are tangible fulfillment's?

I used to sit back and wonder what life would be like if I was a filthy rich millionaire. What would I spend my money on? Would I be debt free? Would I stop pursuing my purpose just because I have money? Then, I was reminded of people who appear to have it all- but then suddenly feel the need to end their life by committing suicide. All of the money, fame and wealth in the world could not buy them happiness. Why is that?

The answer is simple.

It is because Money, Wealth, Power and Fame are temporal and does not bring fulfillment. It does not complete your life. It does not close a gap in your heart. This is where only God can step in and complete you!

We all share different motives, but our common ground should be aiming for a greater purpose for our existence. Where do we find that purpose? There's only one place it rest and it is only in God.

Here's what scripture tells us about Money, Power, Wealth and Fame.

God desires for you to have Wisdom over Money!
Ecclesiastes 7:12
Wisdom is a shelter as money is a shelter, but the advantage of knowledge is this: that wisdom preserves the life of its possessor.

God's Wisdom and Power is limitless. Man's Power CAN fail.
Job 12: 13-14
"To God belong wisdom and power;counsel and understanding are his. 14 What he tears down cannot be rebuilt;the man he imprisons cannot be released.

God would rather you have wisdom than wealth!
Proverbs 16:16
How much better to get wisdom than gold, to choose understanding rather than silver!

Man's fame is temporary. Every knee will bow to the Lord!
Psalm 102:15
The nations will fear the name of the LORD, all the kings of the earth will revere your glory.

The Bottom Line
Though money is an essential to healthy living, it should not be your god nor motive for serving the Lord. Our power and fame means nothing. God cares so much more about your service. But here's the thing- he will bless you for your hard work and service to him, if your motives are pure! This is where we should learn to trust that he's got our backs! Right?

So, ask yourself.

What motivates you to success?
